BENGA

One of the pillars of the London dubstep community, Benga is at the top of the tree due to his devastating productions, innovative style and vicious dj skills. His tunes are pushed through a dark heaving electro swamp and lacerated with the razorest beats. Absolute nastiness guaranteed .

His first ever Irish performance is not to be missed...

EUSTACHIAN

EUSTACHIAN (fathme records/death$$ucker - US) Prince Kong The Geek

Thurs April 10th 8pm, Whelans, Wexford Street, Dublin 2

This should be devastating - Eustachian are one a the most crushing breakcore acts state-side their productions are just drippin in slick nastiness.

Prince Kong, just back from a short US tour, is on fire, with a collaboration with the mighty Warrior Queen about to drop. and its a homecomin gig for Kaboogie boyo the GEEK. Should be the business.

FRIDAY MARCH 28th sees the Irish debut performance for both KODE 9 and VARIOUS PRODUCTIONS in what promises to be a night of pure dubwise scintillation.

KODE 9

Kode 9 is one of the absolute heavyweights of the 21st century London bass community. His oceanic meta-dub productions have continuously eroded and exploded the sonic boundaries of dubstep through his idiosyncratic marriage of spectral atmospherics, ethereal melodies and bone-shaking sub bass frequencies.

A DJ throughout the 90s Kode 9 was drawn to London by the dark allure of the 2-step scene at the end of the last century. Swallowed by the metropolis' bass culture, he immersed himself in the emerging sounds of grime and the south London phenomenon that became known as dubstep. His first relase, 'Fat Larry's Skank', dropped on the seminal label Tempa in 2002 and in 2004 he featured heavily on Rephlex's 'Grime 2' compilation alongside Loefah and the Digital Mystikz.

His own imprint, Hyperdub, also born in 2004, becam an instant force with a string of gigantic releases such as 'Spit', 'Sign of the Dub'/'Stalker' ' 9 Samurai', 'Kingstown' etc. The dub poetics of his collaborations with Daddy Gee aka Space Ape, have drawn particular acclaim for their millenium dread ital-ity and their 2006 album 'Memories of the Future' is crucial. His refixing abilities are also much sought after and he has reworked tracks by the likes of Burial, The Bug, Junior Boys and many more

Aside from production duties the man's DJ skills have been honed from being at the helm of the definitive dubstep and grime weekly, FWD in Plastic People and his weekly home on the airwaves; a Tuesday night slot on the legendary pirate, Rinse FM.

We are absolutely hyped to be hosting Kode 9, as he is one of the most exciting and important artists of the past decade. Skank out.

VARIOUS PRODUCTIONS(various productions/XL)

Publicity shy duo, Adam Phillips and Ian Carter, aka Various Productions, defy orthodox classification. Their planet-size tunes straddle the genres of underground UK electronics, folk and pop creating a maelstrom of lush melodies, razor-steppin beats, beautiful vocals, dextrous bars and intoxicatingly heaving b-lines. Their collaborations with varied singers and MCs and their masterful production has enabled them to sculpt their own inimitable sound.

The series of self-released 7"s that droppped throughout 2005/6 ('Hater'/'Biker Walk', 'Sir'/'In this', 'Phortune'/'Limbs', 'Bruk'/'Home' etc.) and the titanic longplayer, 'The World is Gone' (2006) (with some of the most jaw-dropping artwork in recent memory) immediately rasied eyebrows and heartbeats and drew accolades wide and far for its futuristic amalgamtion of styles. Various Productions are no imitators, they are true originators. Not to be missed...

DJ Scotch Egg

The story of DJ SCOTCH EGG is bizarre and possibly fabricated. None the less, it's told like this: For years he went solely by the name of SHIEZE 2000, but after he was approached by a "manufacturer of microwaveable delicacies (who shall remain nameless)" needing some underground noise music credibility for their latest range, things began to change.

Like the metaphoric peeling away of the breadcrumbed sausage meat and the subsequent reveal of the shrivelled tender egg beneath, DJ SCOTCH EGG shrugged his Casio techno and any and all dealings with irradiated food from his round shoulders. Somewhere in a darkened room a cry rang out...a megaphone was borrowed (from Adaadat's ATOM TRUCK), a Gameboy was brutalised... DJ SCOTCH EGG was born.

Friday - 25th January 2008 !kaboogie label fundraiser with WARLOCK and very special guests...

Warlock

Featuring:
Warlock (rag&bone)
Sunil Sharpe (mantrap/spindizzy)
Thatboytim (takeover)
Major Grave (!kaboogie)

The next episode in the !kaboogie cartoon is very important to us cause we are gonna be celebrating our
second birthday AND fundraising for imminent !kaboogie vinyl/mp3 releases.

So, to mark the occasion, we have got a whopper line-up that will guarantee nasty skankin from start to finish.

We are delighted to be hosting a man like Warlock, a !kaboogie favourite. The man hails from the south of London and
runs things at Rag&Bone Records with his partner Noyeahno. Rag&Bone and (upcoming sub-label Starksound) have been dishing out some deliciously rotten releases from the likes of Aaron Spectre, Drop the Lime, Starkey and Blackmass Plastics as well as Warlock and Noyeahno themselves. The sound they are nurturing is bass heavy and dark, gleaning the heft and steppa vibe of dubstep but melding it with more engaging and original crunching beats. Right up our street. Warlock has been djing since the acid house days and was steeped in the free party techno scene throughout the nineties. He has released with Sebastian from Spiral Tribe [69db] and compiled techno compilations for Kickin Records. This man is gonna wreck the place.

Before Warlock we will be treated to two a Dublin's absolute finest djs, Sunil Sharpe and Thatboytim, who will be at hand to grind up the dancefloor. Having just launched one of the most interesting record ventures in Ireland recently with Mantrap Records you can bet on Sunil rinsing artsits from his stable such as Ed Devane, Rory St. John and Magnetize. Thatboytim(Takeover Records) is a guranteed party rocker and his mash up style is irresistable.

Finally, we are hyped to have one of the most promising younf Irish producers out there, Major Grave, delivering us a kaboogie special live set. Grave has emerged as one a the new hot potatoes in the increasingly exciting Dublinstep scene. Big tings...

We will be giving out a limited number of !Kaboogie Records sampler cds on the night featuring the likes a 2-bit, Grizzle, Ed Devane, Prince Kong, Major Grave, Simon Lynch, A-Force,The Nihilist and Nedule and Lakker. Expect bass...

We will be pressing some vinyl e.p. releases over the coming months and need some wedge to finance the whole thing so please show your support for the Dublin Bass Buzz.
